Riding since the age of seven and born into a family of many successful horsemen, Karen won multiple championships in the Pony Hunter divisions through the Junior Hunters, as well as the Junior and Amateur Owner Jumpers. Her first professional job was with the Fairfield Hunt Club, working for Emerson Burr. Following the Hunt Club, she spent several years working with Cathy Cram at Cramberry Stables in Aiken, SC and then moved to Camden, SC to work with Judy and Roger Young. From 2004-2016, she was the head trainer at Brick Church Farm in Charleston,SC. Karen is currently the head trainer at Sims Hill Farm, North Carolina. Karen has won multiple WCHR Year End and Zone Awards, was the recipient of the 2013 WCHR Southeast Trainer Award and currently competes horses in the USHJA International Derby Division. Notably, her student, Mathew Bravo, was the first recipient of the inaugural USHJA Foundation Pony Finals grant.
